Just had a WD hard drive pack up on me. Need to replace it. Any recomendations. I need one that can be carried arround and be reasonably robust. What people use? I was suprised this failed on me - had treated it pretty well over the last 12 months. I lost about 10gb of data which was a killer. I was told all portable hard drives are delicate and should be treated very carefully. I had thought the idea of it being portable was that I could chuck it into my bag - not so it appears.

I'd recommend this to anyone, I bought a WD one and had real issues using with my macs, but this freecom one just plugs in and works straight away.
I have two of them, they look good, are small and portable and the transfer time is good

I personally have the WD Passport and it's really nice. There are 4 of them here in the department. When one guy got it we all liked it so much we all got em. We have a Mac tech come into the office on Thursdays and he's got one of those touch Lacie HDs with the orange rubber housing around it. He swears by it. So we're trying to requisition a handful of those to use as a firewire scratch disk for Photoshop. Dreamy.

For under £10 extra its definitely worth getting the 250gb, these were alot pricer when I picked up mine..

Whatever HD you get, just remember that it's still a disc being held very delicately onto a platter that rotates anywhere between 4200 15000 times per minute. Even when it's turned off, it's likely spinning down, but even still you can damage the disc. Treat all HDs carefully, if you need something to throw around get a flash drive.
