Out of the blue today I got an invite to lunch with the boss tomorrow. That's a good thing right?

Taking your employees to lunch seems a bit strange to me. I usually only have lunch with either clients or other principals of the firm.

first day of working a freelance job recently boss took me out to lunch... "I don't know anything about video production really" he states..The company "Specialized" in Video Editing

    • The phrase I like to use is, "That's why I have wonderful people like you for that." On something I don't know how/ want to do.flavorful1/2

I'm with emo on this one. The only difference for those lunches is that I usually don't drink and try my hardest not to hit on the waitress. Which throws some of them off as I eat lunch with a few people on a regular basis, haha.

Don't order a Sam Adams. Beer sticks on the breath, get mixed drinks. Come on man, that's step one.

It's all in teh book I'm writing.

If you're with other people, it's more OK.

My boss has taken us all out for things a few times now. It's a bit weird, especially since I'm at least 20 years younger than most of my co-workers. However, it's very helpful if you never speak to anyone (ie. like me) normally in the office.

    • Meaning: you can learn a lot about a person by eating with them.Jaline1/8

I refuse to. One time my co-worker came by and yelled, loudly, "WAKE UP, JALINE!!!". I was laughing, but I really wanted toJaline3/8
to punch her in the face, as other people in the office may have believed her.Jaline4/8
      (OK, I wouldn't have punched her, and I didn't, but I was annoyed)Jaline5/8

Haha... I was in your position a couple weeks ago. We never go for lunch - unless it's a group. But this time it was just me & the boss. I got a raise :)

You'll look like you own the place, just as long as you have the biggest cigar you've ever in your mouth for the duration.

You'll be fine, actually I think that is a sign of a good company. When the top man cares enough to get to know the people doing the real work says a lot. It's when they don't care and don't know what you do that should warn you.

You're most probably getting a promotion or congradulations for some recent work.

If you were in trouble it would be an invite to a meeting room with only 30 mins notice.
