I want to get something to cool the office and am wondering if these things work as well/better as the traditional type...

Hire a couple of hot chicks to fan you, keep you cool and bring you cold refreshments and fresh fruit.
Dont bother about a pishy phallic-looking fan.

    • "phallic-looking... people say that about everything nowadays.Jaline1/5
(it cut off some text I had between there).

I said you are right, but people say that about everything.

I thought this was a Hedge thread about billionaire oscillating fans (which I assume are like that one but much more expensive and therefore better).

I saw this the other day and thought it was cool. But didn't want to pay that much for a fan. So I bought a similar-looking one, by Super:

They do work well, whatever the brand.

      It was around $75 here.

I spent about $40 for the one on the left.

Sorry, I need to make my answer a little more cutting and extreme to keep it interesting.

    It fucking blows air.

    • Why not get a person to act as a fan then?Jaline1/3

My wife has a fan that looks similar - she seems to like it.

avolve we have two of those in our house. Not that exact model but two pretty similar. Both are remote control and have timer settings which are really nice. While laying in bed or sitting on the couch we can turn the fans on and off or higher or lower. Very quiet and they really move a lot of air. Very cool.

    Kona: Cheers buddy!

This is the reason why I like the look of it, as it has the timer and remote control, and was just wondering if they are as effective as normal fans.

Think Im going to grab one and see, John Lewis has a 30 day MBG anyway.

    Cheers

    • These are the fans of the future. They will be "normal" soon. I some of them have less dust as well.Jaline1/2
No problem avolve! I'm really happy with the fans.kona2/2

I personally can't stand the weak output of those fans... I need something with POWER

Check out the Hunter Fans... I use this one, I might even buy a second I like it so much... Good build, generates a lot of wind but it can be loud at times...

    http://www.hunterfan.com/images/photos/largePic/90122.jpg

    • Those fans above have enough power for me AND they are quiet. I mainly use Option 1 or 2. Haven't used 3 yet.Jaline1/2
I think the older ones, like the one you posted here, collect a lot of dust too. We have to minimize that in our house.Jaline2/2
