I created an Indesign file... some wireframes for a site... and when I go to print the file, the fonts that I had set in a color print black. WTF? What am I missing? If I save the file as a PDF, it prints correctly.

sounds like a postscript error. are you using cs3?
- rainman0
Yep... CS3.

no...i never have. i just know its an issue with your printer and indesign. try printing directly from illustrator and see if you get the same problem. If you don't the same error- its postscript.
I used to have to print all my indesign files as pdf's for self review I am not really sure how to fix it. if you have an IT dept tell them the postscript is screwed on the printer

check that:
a: the colour you made the fonts is cmyk not PMS
b: the option of printing greyscale isn't turned on (if there's nothing else colour on the page then that's probably it) - as you haven't mentioned if anything else on the page is colour it's hard to tell.
c: the printer is colour- pms shouldn't be an issue but might be.airey
- lol if the problem was option c!!forcetwelve

or you could just print the pdf and not worry about it
- sure but doens't fix it in the long run so you're just creating a problem for next time.airey

a. Colors are CMYK
b. The are other elements on the page that are colored and print fine. Type is the only issue.
c. nice one. hehe... but, yes, it's colorYeah... PDF printing is definitely the easy way out. I'm hoping to fix this, though, since what I'm creating is a template for other wireframing work in the future. Like to work all the bugs out.

what's the printer?

Make sure that the Text as Black option in the Printer Dialog under Output is not checked.

set it in a system font and see what it does. lots of problems in indesign are caused by fonts

Thanks duckofrubber! Works now.
Does Indesign default with that "text as black" option checked? Very odd... I've never messed with those settings.
