The problem with Lynda.com is there's too many videos. For example, if you want to learn css, there's CSS Fundamenals, CSS Page Layouts, CSS for Web Designers. Just keep all that shit in one catergory. They save every video ever made, and who wants to go through all those hours of video. They need to condense their videos per catergory.

Any more alternatives so I can learn this stuff faster? Something that's not too wordy and more efficient?

Do I really need to go through 8h 57m of video to learn CSS page layout?

I just asked my frontend developer this question because i needed to brush up on my javascript fundamentals.
Without hesitation he suggested Teamtreehouse. It has better courses and the exercise at the end of each lesson is good. http://teamtreehouse.com/

I find that the courses run pretty slowly. I hate having to sit there and listen to the instructor sound out w-h-a-t t-h-e-y a-r-e t-y-p-i-n-g.
Then I switched the playback speed to 2x, and it finally ran at a pace I could pay attention to.

Treehouse is great for web (all that I've seen on there).
Lynda just has so much over everything, makes it worthwhile.
BUT I know some courses are a little misleading, or someone isn't reviewing the content. I was showing someone some intro 3D classes and the content was just strange, nothing I'd teach someone as first steps.

Yeah, that's the problem with some of these videos or even with books. You have to go through a mile just a few feet of information.

I wouldn't be sitting at this desk today if it weren't for lynda. I started using their books 10 years ago. Their model changed shortly after to streaming video. The videos do seem wordy but they've specifically broken up the videos into 3-5 minutes so you can just go straight to the video you need.
I tried out treehouse and found it to have such a narrow library compared to lynda. Lynda taught me any Adobe CS, flash (back in the day) CSS/Html mark up, php + wordpress. On top of the normal programs/languages its also a pretty good resource for design fundamentals and inspiration. As a college drop out it was a huge piece of the puzzle in my quest for self edu.

I'm self taught myself with the Visual Quickstart books. Got them free at the library. They didn't really have much computer classes back when I was in college.
