There's something about Attenborough's voice that just grabs your attention and makes everything at once very exciting, important and understandable - he's a master narrator..
I think the closest the US has is Edward Herrman, whose voice you will know instantly if you watch any US documentaries on virtually anything - he was also the dad in The Gilmore Girls. (hey - I'm married - you have to make some concessions about what's going to be watched, and you can either fight these things or be smart about it...)..

In the US anything said in an English accent instantly sounds more authoritative and correct.
You can literally get away with saying things that any normal person would either get arrested for, or the crap beaten out of them..
I just can't help myself if I get drunk..
