I am seriously considering adopting a 1 or 2 year old husky from a rescue sometime in the next couple months. I have done a lot of research on them but I would like to know what you guys think. Have any of you ever had one? Any thoughts/comments/suggestions?
Thanks!!!

I had one as a child, was a good dog, and easy to train.

They need a lot of range to roam and cry like bitches when tied up...
kinda like me..

Make sure you establish the pecking order from the begging or you'll be it's bitch.
Also, talk to it in the style of Barry White, it's not called a husky for nothing.

My advice to anyone with (any kind of) a dog: Train them to come to you on command, and take them hiking every day. Dogs need to get out and do dog stuff (run, smell new things, "hunt," etc.) daily, or you end up with behavior issues. If you can't do this, especially if you live in a city, you're doing the dog a disservice.
It's a lot of fun getting out with your dog every day. Healthy too.

Had one for 4 years, he was killed last year by a car.
Here are some things Ive learned:
- NEVER let your husky off his leash
- they shed like crazy certian times of the year
- they howl like wolves when they hear police sirens
- they need TONS of exercise
- they great with kids
- amazing dogs

Friend of mine in elementary school had one; i went over his house to play one time and he left me alone in the room with the dog. The dog cornered me and growled like crazy, i about shit my pants. I think Huskies are as close to a wolf as you can get and unless you live near the arctic circle, why bother? The poor thing'll just sweat its doggie balls off in the summertime.

I thought this thread was about the pants I had to wear as a kid.

My dog is part husky and I lived with a husky for a few years...have friends with them as well. They are amazing, smart dogs. They also have a high prey drive and many of them are notorious cat killers...and any other small furry animal that moves. The husky I lived with killed a few neighbor cats who wandered into his yard...he also killed a couple of skunks and that was just awful.
Almost worst than that is their shed factor. My dog sheds like you wouldn't believe year around...spring is worst but plan on taking stock out in swiffers and buy a furminator.
They need a lot of exercise and they are wily problem solvers. If motivated they will figure out how to open the gate or door or whatever holds them back from freedom. They are not dogs for passive owners looking for a low maintenance dog.
