    Anyone see this documentary?

    http://www.apple.com/trailers/so…

I'm interested to hear what others think of Marla Olmstead and whether she really is 100% behind the work.

wouldn't be surprised if the dad was in on it, I really despise that kind of artwork to begin with anyways.

If it falls into the 'anyone could do it' category, I'll save my analytical thoughts for something that looks like a little more thought was put into it (painting wise).

haven't seen the film nor do i know the story, and as an artist and a parent i'm very much intrigued...

but having seen the trailer i can say that already feel sorry for the child. genius or not she's just being a kid and playing with paint.

    • It's worth a watch Tim, I highly recommend it. Quite the eye opener.2cents

I agree DNE. I think that Marla may have started the paintings but the father polished them afterwards. They mention at the beginning of the movie that father works nights and the mother during the day. He could easily be involved without her knowing.

Hey honey, look what Marla painted today while you were at work. Funny how she could never reproduce the work when filmed.

I really feel sorry for the child.

set up any creative/outgoing kid with an expensive canvas, primed and prep'd with a base color, give them lots of big long brushes, pails of paint and room to work and i think you may see similar results.

I've seen it and I can't say the documentary actually clears up whether she makes them or not, I guess only time will tell.
I too feel sorry for the kid, especially the little brother, who's in desperate need of some attention, you know if she didn't do them he's gonna tell sooner or later.

What did you think about the part where they're in the hotel ad Marla keeps saying how Zane made a painting, not her father multiple times but he just ignores her until she stops.

Something about the father just doesn't sit well with me.

I viewed the trailer, my gut tells me that her father is behind everything, hmmm...organic_grid2/2

Why do documentaries have to be movies now?

Just so people can have their ego stroked that they're at the cinema watching something other than explosions, when the rest of us just watch documentaries on TV where they should be.

It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child

i've seen it. the 'documentary' is just the next step in the families chain of steps to self promote themselves. the kid is a fake, the father is shameless.

Some of her paintings have a way too refined sense of composition that she clearly lacked in the "start to finish" paintings she did. Abstract art also isn't something "anyone" could do. I'm really sick of that fucking statement. If you could do it well, try it Jackson Pollock.
