This makes me really sad.

i'm not saying it's not a problem. i think it's terrible. But if there were a patch of plastic larger than Texas or the US even why can't I ever see a photo of it? I mean shouldn't there be at least one photo from a plane, helicopter or satellite?

- watch the documentary linked above. it's not an actual island, and it wasn't purposely put there. currents push it all there, its just floating around in the water. you can't see it ulness you are down on the water and looking in the water or taking samples from the water. watch the doc, its pretty good. btw, i used to think it was an island too.redrum

Bisphenol A
that's what we need to look into...

it is not like a floating close together pile it is more of a swirling semi bouyant mass of debris which circles around an area the size of the us.
- i_monk0
Bisphenol A has been banned in Canada.
It's too late though; plastic is part of the food chain. If you eat fish you're eating plastic.
- sikma0
avoid using plastics. period.
- monNom0
did somebody say GOLDMINE!?!
how long before somebody equips a trawler to rack this plastic up and burn it? (it is hydrocarbons afterall).
