i know a ton of jokes are coming but any fans of folk rock out there? a friend of mine just put out an album and its amazing and i'm just getting opened up to this genre.

Do a search for "New Weird America" which has been coined as a genre, so to speak. That will bring up a lot to check out.

Yeah, I guess if you're getting into folk, freak folk would be a good move. Devendra Banhart - Nino Rojo or Cripple Crow would be a good start, but yeah, goes on for miles.

My brother is friends with the lead singer and took me to their show a few weeks ago. The lead singer works the summers on his father's commercial fishing boat in Alaska and writes most of his material up there. I think it makes for some pretty interesting content.
I see they're on tour with Bon Iver right now too. I should probably check out Bon Iver's stuff.
