How many of you currently using Wordpress or Moveable Type on your websites would consider installing Facebook over blogs on your websites? I think I'd prefer social networking outside the realm of myspace or facebook, especially with all the countless possibilities

That would depend on the type of website your running.
- i would say that the idea of adding facebook to your site would change depending on your needs and goals********

It might be useful for brands, though not necessarily for you personally. Brands are all hard about getting into social networks. Or they were. Kind of petered out in the last 6-12 months.
- Which is to say you may be better off devising your own approach.harlequino

The idea of facebook is to round up a collective of people, groups and create a forum between you and them. I'd say it would be similar to adding a forum, blog or guestbook to your site

imagine when some mainstream open source app becomes infinitely customizable and there will be no reason to use anything else

Customised wordpress tied in (design wise) with a heavily customised myspace page (CSS hacks abound!) would be best for arty designerish folk. It's what I'm planning to do anyway,

I'm using facebook to create groups interested in what my company will be selling (mid-century modern furniture) and also a company page to gather people for beta-testing the site when it's almost ready to launch, then I'm going to use the information and contacts from facebook and funnel them over to my company site and blog. I'm also using ning to gather qualified leads in a social network.
It's working pretty well so far. After the site is launched I'll maintain the social networks as a (subtle and non-pushy) marketing venue.
