not the best movies to go watch on friday night before going out to boogie... I think enough about my older dying family to go pay at the theater to get reminded "when is the last time you called your aging mother to tell her i love you" dont mean to be shallow, i got the point, but i dont need to go get reminded by an ailing fantasy character that everyone you love will die... i know this

I can see both sides of the argument here.
It comes down to a subjective opinion about the movie in the end. If you don't have an emotional connection with the movie you ARE NOT going to like it. This is very similar to yes, Forrest Gump, Neverland and There will be Blood. You need the connection to stay interested in the story. I thought Gump and Blood were snore fest and really wanted to walk out but I appreciated the acting and cinematography and I was glad I stayed.
If you are going to see the movie you have to have an open mind, commit to a 3hr movie and remember the story is COMPLETELY FANTASY.

it was ok, I just watched it. I never felt any emotional connection to any of the characters nor did the story do anything special. When comparing it to other movies, Forrest Gump comes to mind. Very similar in many ways. Except in Forrest Gump, the story was far more developed and believable and the characters had far more depth and dimension.
In Benjamin Button, there was no explanation whatsoever for his condition. A vague mention of some backwards running clock, but nothing to explain it. All and all I would MAYBE recommend it on dvd, but I could sit here an poke holes in the plot all night long. Whereas movies like Forrest Gump left a lasting impression and a true connection with the characters. I say skip it.

did i tell you i was struck by lightning 7 times?
haha- totally out of the blue comedy interjectionto awkwards point above- the awkward love was addressed in the under the table scene with the redhead kid.
but yeah- you are right about when brad aged into brad.. dashing brad on a indian motorcycle.. zzzzz
but saying the movie as a whole sucked is crazy to me. its a great narrative. and tying it at the end to hurricane katrina was wild. a lot of shit to put together in 3 hrs
- It was a Triumph Bonneville, not an Indian.threadpost
- The lighning thing was funny...But I guess the monotony of the second half ruined the first. The narritive's cool, tho, I'll give you that.awkwardmedia
- the lightning part was very funny.threadpost

so often people say 'it's great' or 'it was boring' and pretend the world knows what they mean by such common and overused terms. and i just want to say i appreciate the care you put into your writing here, awkwardmedia. you did it without much spoiler as well.
- Thanks man! I appreciate that--the two goals I was trying to achieve.awkwardmedia

I've spent about five minutes trying to start my post on this movie so as not to sound offensive, so I'm giving up. It sucked. Sorry, I don't mean to be a dick, but it was painful to watch and gave me bedsores on my ass it was so long.
The story is an interesting one, but the movie blew the retelling. I mean, where was the actual dealing with the issues of age? Of "awkward" love? Of something that's not accepted by society? It was a simple retelling of a story better left to the pages (and, note, I have not read the short story).
The best part is the first half (a movie on its own). Brad Pitt, no matter how much he annoys you, is a good actor, and pulled off a challenging role in a way I bought into and enjoyed. So, props there. And don't get me wrong, the emotional pull of hte movie stayed with me all the way through. But, I got bored and Pitt aged towards...Pitt. Suddenly, he was playing the role he always plays, and that was much less fun to watch.
I guess I was disappointed. I thought it was so much fun to watch the first half that the repetitiveness of the second half just put me to sleep. It's too bad that a really great performance was eclipsed by my ass falling asleep.
- dont sweat it, the more I think about it, the more I agree that it really did straight suck. snoozer.threadpost
- there was ZERO explanation nor connection to any of the characters. weak.threadpost

I thought it was a good movie...4 outta 5 if I was going to give it a number. Good movie, not great. A happy and sad movie. Only dislike was that it was a supa long movie, almost 3 hours, but I don't think it could have been shortened. Cinematography and score was amazing. A very creative idea. 'Curious' would be a good word to describe it. One of Brad Pitts better performances as of late. Burn Before Reading was crap. Don't bring your grandmother to it. We brought my wife's grandmother who is in denial of her age. She was furious about the movie, said she hated it, and was crying the entire time. People die and are reborn in this movie, especially old people. It's like one big run on.

I hate about 99.9% of the crap that comes out today but not this one. The attention to detail is superb, acting was good and the score tied it together. It's worth a watch on the big screen just for the cinematography.

the firefight scene in the tugboat was awesome

fantastic movie! david fincher know what he's doing. i wish it was even longer. there was so much more i wanted to know about benjamin's life.
- cannonball0
Such a good movie. Really.
- akrokdesign0
saw it yesterday. i liked it. its pretty good. there some tiny things you could argue about. still good.
- ukit0
Getting good reviews...
- emukid0
does it really matter who the actor is as long as its a good movie? heck i'd even go watch a shyamalan movie starring freddie prinze jr if it looked really good and/or got really good reviews.
- Short of it: yes, unless the film is ridiculously good.Jaline
- Because then you start to remember about the things you don't like.Jaline
- a good movie is a good movie. if an actor's personal antics matter to you while watching a movie then maybe you are not watching the movie?emukid
- watching the movie?emukid
- This is my opinion. ie, I love Batman Begins but dislike K. Holmes. I dislike Spiderman partly b/c of the actors.Jaline
- Of course a movie can be great, but actors can make or break a film.Jaline
- Look at it like a pet peeve. I mean, how many ppl didn't like the idea of Shia in Indiana Jones?Jaline
- Doesn't mean I won't like the film. But I may dislike it (just a bit) b/c an actor can't act or just looks stupid in general.Jaline
- Anyway, I'm going on about this too much. I feel the same way about directors, but not writers, for some reason.Jaline
- One last thing, I do take into consideration the writing (script), and everything else before judging, of course.Jaline
- shia might be a douche but he might be good in that particular role in indiana jones. because he is a douche doesnt mean he will never be able to perform well in any movie at all. i'll save my judgement for until i have seen the movie.emukid
- doesnt mean he will never be able to perform well in any movie at all. i'll save my judgement for until i have seen the movie.emukid
- seen the movie.emukid
- weird how i repeat the last word of a note when continuing myemukid
- my sentence.emukid
- I agree with you! I just don't have the motivation to watch a film with an actor I like in theatres unless someone tellsJaline
- me that it's good. It doesn't mean that I'm not going to watch the film at home. I just wouldn't pay money.Jaline
- It's not about whether Pitt is good in the specific role. It's about my preconceived notions about him and motivationJaline
- to pay to watch the film is not there.Jaline
- note 16:
*actor I DON'T LIKE, not one I do like.Jaline - get a room.Jnr_Madison
- The film can still be great, but if he annoyed me I will say it. Just like how I thought Paltrow was good in Iron ManJaline
- and usually I don't like her.Jaline
- it's a david fincher movie and that's all one needs to know. it might be in chinese and have midgets in starring roles but its a fincher movie! FINCHER!emukid
- fincher movie. FINCHER!emukid
- OK, so to sum up, I never judged the film yet, and of course I wouldn't do that without watching it first.Jaline
- yeah, see, emu, that's your opinion. I happen to agree with you, but I'm still not paying.Jaline
- Just to let you know, I don't watch many films in theatres. So I'm not being that offensive.Jaline
- FINCHER!emukid
- i am not offended. i am just fucking with you. i am a troll, you see.emukid
- FINCHER!emukid
- I do like him.Jaline
