Well, I figured that reply would cause a reaction. Normally I would lay low and reply with a generally positive statement (because the work is so impressive) but I figured it would be interesting to put a more complex reply out there.
I see your point Ian and I see the contradiction. I do sell images/products that could be used for strictly surface level design, but really it's about how these elements are used and it is up to the designer to challenge themselves to create work with meaning, that is at least conceptually driven on some level.
I'm a fan of numerous artists, designers, and brands that really have a clear direction to their work, whether subtle or overt, clearly communicating their individuality and perspective.
This brings up an interesting topic for discussion, and that wasn't necessarily what I was trying to do, more so I was voicing a frustration at what I perceive as a lack of work in the world of art and design with real substance and depth.

I totally agree reserves, I have no understanding or appreciation of art at all. Last time I was in a gallery I was stroking my chin meaningfully and looking for pics of nude women to ogle all the while I was just trying to find the shitter.

Sorry, but @ reserves, re: (Considering the state of contemporary design - style/surface over substance/communication)
You run a stock art/image library, where you sell images of paint splatters, cammo, ink drops etc to designers and yet you're bemoaning the state of design, specifically that of style over substance in communication?
I think that you're really belittling your own customers there chief, since you are actually adding to culture of contemporary design with your own stock images and filled in typefaces.
This is a bit of an contradiction no?

Amazing work. Possibly too far seeded in the world of fine art, or too conceptually driven for most designers to appreciate. (Considering the state of contemporary design - style/surface over substance/communication)
