Anyone seen any good deals lately? I need to pick one up before the end of the month. Ideally looking for a 42" with 1080p for about $1000.
Have a Samsung 32" right now but it's leaving me at the end of the month. Anyone hear anything about Olevia? Is it crap or decent? Any other sugs?

I have a 50" DLP, LED lit. Not sure what other models they have with the LED but for the price the picture is amazing.

Yeah, I was just researching and it seems like it's a good idea to stick to a name brand and spend a little more.

i seen 720p's that looked better then 1080p. i would just go on the specs only. this is one item you have to really look at stores and compare.

Makes sense...just trying to find the best deal and the best price. With a designer's salary, I'm gonna have to put this purchase on a card anyway, and I hear Best Buy has a pretty good credit card deal thing. Any of you guys purchase yours this way?

Wouldn't 720 on a 42" be less noticeable than 720 on a 60"? Are you saying I should stick to 1080p for a 42"? Just trying to figure this out...

What I think they are saying is that the signal/video processing is often more important than the specs (ie being a 1080p set). Even at large sizes, a well processed 720p image can look superior to a poorly processed 1080i/p signal. So narrow down a few models and then let your eyes decide. Also REALLY important. See what the set looks like with a SD signal. Some look great in HD and have crap SD signal cleanup. And you will still have to watch a lot of SD.
Also, as mentioned above, Vizio sets offer good value if on a budget.

The Gadget Show on CH5 (uk tv) rounded up all the latest lcd's and plasmas and took them to a bunch of guys who tested things professionally for a living from image quality / power consumption - even down to how easy it was to get out the box and plug in.
i thought they mightve had the video on their site
all it seems is a "best buy" section, and that shows 3 from diff price bands.

Are these any good? Or does it pay to go with a Samsung, Sony or something more of a name?

Just like akrokdesign said above, on a 42" set, 720p is the best bet... check the article below:

I bought a Panasonic 720p 42" plasma with anti-glare for $1100 last September. I love how the color renders on a plasma screen better. Like it's been said, for a 42" TV, 720p is plenty unless you are really picky and planning to watch a lot of Blu-ray DVDs.
Also, if you have to put it on your creditcard and not planning to pay it off right away, you should buy what you can afford and save your money.

How is Tiger with returns, warranties, customer service and finance options? I need to put this on a card but want one where I have at least a year to pay it off before interest hits.
