Doing a logo for a client and need give them a qoute before I begin. What are the standards for formulating costs. I have a formula but since this is might be a lead to larger future projects dont want to undercharge and then get screwed over later.
My formula is a follows:
15-25hours for research and development
x hourly rate
= ?10 - 20 hours for revision
x hourly rate
= ?Research + Revisions= cost
+
Fonts/stock art.
= final price.Anything im missing

rights:
Worldwide or America or National or Regional?
exclusiv or non exclusiv?
Timeperiod: 1 year 2 years 5 years unlimited?
use = less middle or often....tell me which rights and I´ll tell you the factor
- szymon_k0
regional maybe national. exclusive and unlimited use for on air programs and print material
- moamoa0
regional is 0,1 / national is 0,4
unlimited is 1,5
exclusiv is 1,0
use = middle 0,3together with regional = 2,9
so if you got 50 hours for example a 60$ (or xx $)
= 3000 $ x 2,9 = 8700 $ for the rights
= 11700$
this is a normal calculation, if you get this money is another story

Do you find many clients actually pay for rights moamoa? I'd be laughed out of the room with a lot of my clients if I told them they owed me 10 grand for rights to a logo they paid me to design.
- moamoa0
btw: you are in school forget my calculatio.. if you need 40 hours... take 1000$ and be happy
- szymon_k0
ok cool, will try to add that to my equation

If you're a student, I'm guessing you don't have a book full of impressive logos to back up your pricing. Good luck getting more than $200-300.

If you can't talk yourself into believing you deserve the money, you probably won't be able to talk the client into it either.

Don't forget preparation of files in multiple formats - TIF, JPG, AI, EPS.

a style and usage guide should be created also.

I've started to build in the cost of an HTML downloads page because I often get repeated requests to send logo files out to my client's clients.
