What does everyone think about putting music in a design portfolio site. Is it a good thing or just fricken annoying?
- detritus0
'Everyone' doesn't, as I'm sure the following responses will attest.
And it's fricking annoying.
- I misread. I thought you said 'Why does Everyone...'
Silly me.detritus - Ok I was wondering what you were talking aboutGlitterati_Duane

I bluddy hate music on any websites. It's a pain in the arse.
- I think that I like the idea of it but then most of the time I turn it off if a site has music anyway.Glitterati_Duane
- it's so annoying, especially if you visit the site more than once cos you get the same bluddy 5 secs of tune evey time.

Not a good idea to put music IMO. Unless you are doing sound design/music production work, then maybe.

don't do it.

music can be ok, but a chap I work with is constanly lookin at sites and frequently gets caught cos he has his speakers on and the music come out full blast before he has time to turn it off.
So as an early warning system that someone is doing no work, its a good idea.

You should write and record a song for each portfolio piece.
- Yeah and the lyrics will explain each pieceGlitterati_Duane

Never ever....
Unless you're a composer, then I suppose your portfolio is music

we had a customer who demoanded mp3s on his site, then wanted it to restart on everypage load... we tried to explain but he was adamant..

It's ok only if it's "Krie Elieson" by Mr. Mister.

music on websites fucking pisses me off.
i dont even want to hear sound effects... i don't even have speakers but sometimes if i see a little music player on the screen with the stereo bars bouncing up and down i will stop the music even though i can't hear it..
if it's particularly obnoxious i will close the browser

i listen to my own music - i do not want to hear yours.

Music or a short audio sample is okaay ONLY if it's not annoying, very subtle and really short and with the option to turn it off on repeat visits...something like the old newstoday jingle...

Music on a portfolio = bad
Music on a personal site = okay, but still annoying to most of your userbase

99% of the time is comes off as kitchy and tacky.
the worst is when they put some total crap on there and there is no way to turn it off. I usually just close the window and make a mental note to never visit again.

unless your work entails music/audio like in mograph or audio design or media rich stuff i doubt it's useful...include a large and obvious MUTE button to be safe
that being said....NSSSSSSSSSSSSSCAAAAADDDD... ! : ]

A client asked me if I could put the Bad boys sound track on his site. I said "no, Impossible.... "
He concurred and carried on..
The site was bad enough as it is (ask Skt)
