hmm actually there is a way
have the anchor class box text visibility set to hidden or a text indent:-9999px then on the hover, show it

CSS:
.text div {display: none;}
.text img {display: block;}.text:hover div {display: block;}
.text:hover img {display: none;}html (hope it makes it through filters like this)
[a class="text"]
[div]some text[/div]
[img]
[/a]

here's a start although the text isn't aligned to the base of the square. at least you can see what to start with.

airey, your a gun...thanks mate
Now I have to work out how to have multiple images per page and not have a separate style sheet for each image.The images will be dynamic and have artist names for each one.
- airey0
yeah good luck with that. i'd say without JS or PHP to create a variable you're out of luck but my knowledge of almost everything is patchy at best.
me, i'd have to create a separate link selector for each one but like i said i'm fucking clueless.
also, i find the unordered list is a good way to go with nav items but it may not be the best method for what you're trying to achieve.
good luck and let us know how you go with it, i'd be interested in the solution.

stugoo, that way he will still have to make a css class for each image seperately. Look at the fix I posted half an hour ago.
