Flash and Microphones

  I'm trying to use flash to play audio from a microphone is real time, but I'm experiencing an annoying lag, are there any other web based plug-ins other than Flash, in which I could basically create an amp?

  i thought mimes weren't supposed to talk?

  other than maybe Silverlight, Shockwave (Director), or maybe Java (using Processing) , I can't think of anything else.
