So a little while ago on my stupid PC I ran their system update thing and downloaded the security patches and all that.

This weekend I opened an illy file that I had worked on previous to this patching and I get the font substitution dialog box.

I look to see that it is no longer in the available font list and I click on the font in the fonts folder to open it and get the error that says "this file ... is not a valid font file" The file is recognized as a valid file on my back-up PC.

So I am thinking it has to do with something in the patches, but I can not uninstall them and using system recovery to go back before the update doesn't seem to work either.

What the hell... has anyone experienced something like this? Any ideas?

As a side note the type1 version is fine on my mac too - so it is just the patched machine.

It was any of the helvetica neue pack.
    ZOMG!!! NO Helvetica!?!?!?

I tried replacing it with a back up, but no luck. The thing is it is like 75% the otf fonts that no longer are recognized. Really, really weird.

have you tried shitting in the fridge yet?

if it doesn't solve the problem it at least gives you the chance to think it out
