Hey qbn,
Who are most high-end independent publishers using as printers these days?
I am currently working on a very specialized, artistically bent, quarterly, but just can't seem to find a high-end magazine printer that deals heavily with these types of clients.
Who are magazines like Tokion, Swindle
Arkitip, or Complex using as printers
these days?I've tried Quebeccor, and Westcan, but are there any others?

Seriously,
I've been going through a ton of printers and they all
out of touch with the needs of independent publishers.

Yeah, I understand. What exactly do you need?
Hemlock is really good, but you pay the price.

digital or press?

definitely press,
hemlock and qg seem like awesome printers, just sorta
expensive. But still, very appreciated. I sent quotes to
both, but I was looking for printers that were used to
working with independent publishers, with low overhead.Westcan, the printers of swindle and Re:Up, used to be
a sure bet, but now their swamped with work and have
little time to talk about the very eclectic needs of some nerdy
typographer. But they used be great.

You say you need hi-end, but then these printers are too expensive...
If you want hi-end, surely you have to expect to pay for it.

Did you try Anderson Lithograph? I love those guys.

Try Creel. And if you do, talk to Sherif!!!!! He will take care of you. I promise. They do great work, and your press checks will be in Vegas! Do IT NOW!!!

what city are you in? shipping is a big cost to factor.
i used anderson when i lived in nor cal...they are really good, just like jobhall said.

Printing costs in the NYC area are nuts. I usually outsource to TX, FL or CA...but then you pay shipping...soo...

I made an assumption the size of your mag and quantity to where it's feesable to be on an litho-offset. These guy's have a very good reputation about handling specialized jobs and maintaining the upmost quality. If you are interested, Send me an e-mail and I can put you in touch with their best rep.

these guys print my mag...
you can tell they're good printers by how bad their website is. :)
