Not that I'm a general fan of banksy - but he's really scrapping the barrel with this one. He's got nothing left that's clever, so he points out what anyone intelligent individual already knows.
Further to that - I've seen witty comments like this scrawled under cameras loads of times.
What's next on his agenda? Free Bill Posters?

Hey, man, you don't talk to Banksy. You listen to him. The man's enlarged my mind. He's a poet-warrior in the classic sense. I mean, sometimes he'll, uh, well, you'll say "Hello" to him, right? And he'll just walk right by you, and he won't even notice you. And suddenly he'll stencil, and he'll throw one up in a corner, and he'll say "Do you know that if is the middle word in life? If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you, if you can trust yourself when all men doubt you" – I mean, I'm no, I can't – I'm a little man, I'm a little man, he's, he's a great man.

Hahahahahaha.
When I first arrived here on QBN, I had the audacity to say I wasn't much of a Banksy fan though I recognised the immensity of what he had achieved, and some bloke in Australia really fucking went nuts at me. It was weird becuase it was almost the first conversation I had on here and this was going nuts, running me down, telling me I deserved to die for dissing the demi-god Banksy on her eetc etc. Quiet alarming but also hysterical that some bloke in Australia was just getting the Banksy Rapture years after Londoners have been there and done that and started to get a bit bored with it.When I first started reading your post just then Bluejam I thought "Oh God, here we go again. Another pounding from a Banksyite"

I concede he's done some interesting, clever stuff. But telling me about the CCTV problem in my own city is like pointing out that the sky is blue.
- moth0
Sometimes it's grey and blue at the same time.

i cant wait for goverment-gps in cars and the billing that will come with it....oh and higher road-tax to pay for the system.

Surely CCTV is only a 'problem' if you are a criminal.
Yes, I agree that the 'big brother' theory is wrong.
Yes, there are way too many CCTV camera's in the UK.
Yes, you can slag me off for the first sentence if you want...
- It's only a problem for criminals now but its so open to miss use in the future.weave

CCTV does very little to prevent crime, it works to catch people after the event but most of the crime happening on the street is unplanned. I doubt people are getting into fights then stopping before the stab someone to check if there is a CCTV camera pointed at them.
- maximillion_0
as weave points out CCTV doesnt do much for crime, it does on the other hand open up a world of opporunity to suck more money out of you by various orgs. The new camera systems in london issuing parking fines is the first of many to come.

"Surely CCTV is only a 'problem' if you are a criminal".
"I hereby give my consent to the practise of watching me, which I do freely on the basis that I know myself to be within the law in all my activites and an abiding citizen. The apparatus of observation can be put in place now with my full consent, based on the laws that I obey now, and the apparatus shall remain in place, even though the laws I currently agree to may change in the future"

- Cunts like that won't be saying the same thing when the government are sticking cameras in peoples housesset

Wouldn't it make more sense for Banksy to have done this in the States?
- Britain is the most surveillanced (is that a word?) country in the worldset
- waaaaay more cctv here, actually.paraselene
- I appreciate that (I lived in Newcastle, which was the 1st city to go this route) - 'sJust the quote's uniquely American.detritus
- not sure how much thought went into it. could be trying to draw comparisons, could be thinking of the international stage he's now on...paraselene
- ...stage he now occupies.paraselene
- Could be that it was one of those 'clever' things that pops into mind, but he didn't think it through any further.detritus
- True, maybe it should have read "long live our orwellian state"set
- Could merely be lazy.Spookytim

"I hereby give my consent to the practise of watching me, which I do freely on the understanding that the apparatus serves to protect me as a law abiding citizen. The apparatus of observation can be put in place now with my full consent, and I understand that future events may make it necessary to extend the apapratus of observation, and that I will then, as now, only need to fear this if I am in violation of the laws of this land. To this end it is feasible that the apparatus' structure may grow closer to me, and that the ideas I currently hold about privacy and private space may need to be reappraised at some future date. As long as I stay within the law, I should have no reason to fear the apparatus creep that may need to enter my home for the public good. "

"I have nothing to hide and therefore give me consent for subdermal sousveillance hardware to be implanted for the general good. I understand that this will constitute a valid contribution to societal harmony, and that exercising my right to refuse to host a vitalk element of the apparatus may lead to the suspicion that I value the individual's freedom over the greater good of the populace"
