    I didn't literally mean websites should be designed like print work.
    What I mean is that the conventions of graphic design have evolved over the last 100 years for good reason, things like typography, grids etc. These things still apply to all communication design.
    The web is still in its infancy and still finding its feet in terms of design. What I mean is that web design should not be viewed as some practise outside of all other design disciplines. There are certain things (most importantly ideas) that are key to all areas of design.
    Usability is certainly a concern in design but your design should not be compromised by it.
    Where his site is concerned, he has stuck so doggedly to his usability ideas that he has compromised the design of the site. Everything on the front page looks the same, nothing has any importance.
    If it were a book or a poster, there would be some hierarchy to the information. All I was saying is, that hierarchy applies on the web too.
