Red Sox Acquire Paul Byrd
By Tim Dierkes [August 12 at 2:47pm CST]According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, the Red Sox acquired starter Paul Byrd today for a player to be named later or cash. Byrd, 37, has a 4.53 ERA in 131 innings this year. He relies on pinpoint control and has strung together five solid starts.
Byrd had cleared waivers on account of his $7.5MM salary. He's still owed over $2MM; no word on whether the Red Sox will pay all of it.

By Tim Dierkes [August 12 at 1:47pm CST]According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, Freddy Garcia agreed to a minor league contract with the Tigers. The Tigers hope to have him in the Majors by month's end for a playoff drive.
The Tigers are eight games out in the AL Central and 9.5 out of the wild card, so their playoff chances hover around 2-4%. But there's not much downside to adding Garcia just in case.

"Hearing that the Red Sox will send Craig Hansen and Brandon Moss to Pittsburgh, which will also receive Dodgers third baseman Andy LaRoche and Double-A pitcher Bryan Morris in the deal. The Red Sox would receive Jason Bay From Pittsburgh and the Dodgers get Ramirez."
This is fucking bullshit, we're getting hosed! We're getting Jason Bay for one of the greatest hitters ever and a really good pitching prospect? WTF!!!!

Just got home from Chavez Ravine...what a game! Billingsly's first shutout! And they play to end the game; another beauty by Russel Martin (who had 2 RBIs tonight)! Dodgers and Angels in the WS.
You heard it here first.
- not a chance, though that would be my dream! cept I think halos would dominate...GO BLUE!threadpost

If the sox send Manny to florida, they wont even make the playoffs. so long boston dynasty!
my predictions then:
AL = Angels (al west), Twins (al central), devilrays (al east), yankees (al wildcard)
NL = Dodgers (nl west), Cubs (al central), mets (nl east), marlins (nl wild card)
world series = angels vs cubs(wish it were the dodgers)...angels win.- rays rays...shit I cant stop saying devilrays.threadpost
- i'd actually like to see the rays going somewhere, i just dont think they can hang on...Greedo
- mostly road games for them in august, and they've kinda been sucking it up...Greedo
- if the red sox dont make the playoffs this year, that hardly means end of dynasty, sonGreedo
- the loss of manny does.threadpost

Greedo:
Off-season plan. Pick up Texiera for sick money. Suck it up for a year with an extra all-star infielder, let Lowell go. Youk back at Third - Texiera at first. Red Sox win the world series in 2009.

What's Joe Torre been up to? I haven't paid much attention to the Dodgers this season, mostly because they're never brought up when I'm just walking by the TV on Sports Center...
