I'm looking for a shop where you can choose all the components (preferibly via internet) and they assemble it, install Windows and then you can pick up at the shop or they ship it to your home.
Something like www.overclockers.co.uk but based in londonPCWorld/Currys/Dixons are not ok.

Why need it be based in London if you're doing it over the internet? You'll only end up paying a premium for their increased rent?
When I'm not getting stuff off the internet, I use these guys in Tottenham Court Road - have bought most of my components off them over the past few years, have had my main PC built by them and find them to be friendly, knowledgable and the last likely on TCRoad to try and spin me with some bullshit to rip me off.
No idea what you can achieve via their site - I've always just popped in.

Thanks detritus. Saw their site and they have a pretty good catalogue (bit more pricey than overclockers). The reason for being based in London is that the PC is not for me but for friends (i'm the "friend who speaks IT") and well.. just considering different solutions.

Fair enough - unless I know exactly what I want, I prefer to buy in person too. And, you have my sympathies as your group's 'IT guy' - I've been dragged around TCr, trying to spot a good purchase on a friend's and family's behalf too many times to mention!

I remember when Apple was all the rage and everyone bought one for their looks alone regardless of whether or not they ran twice as slow as Windows PC's half their price.
there was a phase too when people bought Apple players that injected audio into the users ears via a white cable, having these was a must - it was a fashion accessory/statement. In fact, all it showed was ignorance to technology and mocked you as a sucker for mass-marketing ... The Apple was more expensive, less reliable and not as good quality as other alternatives on the market. They then failed in the mobile communications industry by opting for the wrong technologies and not supporting other technologies that were important to the end user like flash plugin. They also opted to only make the phones available through one mobile communications company in each area of the planet.
- so it seems failing massively is the new way to world domination...ribit

I'm impressed to see a PC thread that hasn't ignited a mac vs PC flame war.
