I missed it in the filter– what was that extremely basic software for building a portfolio? I think it was built in PHP

Please if you have any design genes left in you, for the love of God please do not use another "indexhibit" wireframe template... unless you are a high school or college student. Please be innovative and original when creating website interfaces.

HAHA!
Daniel Eatock almost trying to lay claim to the left navigation again
http://indexhibit.org/history/I dont mind folios that follow this structure/design and mines is like that. I think i first did it back in 2000 so does that mean I can lay claim to creating it before Daniel?

"As both a designer and programmer, I've always felt that producing an online personal portfolio is one of the most difficult assignments for many."
He's joking, right?!
- 23kon0
haha again.
its not a difficult assignment if you just have left nav with pics of your work just slapped up and stacked up there like his own.
what IS difficult is coming up with something unique that people havent seen before and being able to refresh your own site everysooften to keep it so.

really haha? I don't think he is claiming left hand navigation. It just a bare bones description of what the folio site is.
- 23kon0
his site http://www.eatock.com/ pretty much used to claim that he invented this left text navigation but now it seems its all been reworded to help promote this indexhibit in a marketing way

Not really. We came up with a name for it...we don't make money from Indexhibit.
You ever notice that there are sites using Indexhibit that don't follow the left/right idea? That, it's used to build normal sites as well...
It's funny how people want to dis on a template...when if they had any skill they could easily see how with some css and html skills they could do things quite differently.
And yes, don't ask me to start posting some of the emails I've received from people who have claimed as well, that they've been trying for eons to build their site and simply couldn't get it done. You know it's a reality out there...
- so are you dissing the people that use it and dont customise it ?23kon
- Nope...not at all.Vaskerville
- Ghostschool0
okay, its just a bit odd why you'd focus on that. He's a good designer one of us I'd thought.
- Vaskerville0
No, I'm not dissing anybody. It's a standardized way to show a portfolio that works for many. And for people who are dissatisfied with this, like yourself, there is a ton of power in the source code to do other things.
The reality is...not everybody knows html and css...not everybody can (or even wants) to customize things. We've provided a way for both to exist.

sorry Vauderville I was asking 23kon. i think the indexhibit's a great idea (I use it myself)
- 23kon0
Vaskerville,
I wasnt slating it or that way of creating a layout - like i said, ive got left expanding text in my own folio online, its a good and easy way to structure a site after years of creating flash sites of my own and finding it a pain for updates. And i'm not dissing the indexhibit product either - in fact when i read this thread and checked out the site I passed the link on to a girl i know who's looking to build her own site for a folio.
The thing i WAS dissing was the wording that Daniel used to have on his site laying claim to being the founder of that type of layout.
Is it just me that remembers that - or am i goin daft ?
- 23kon0
Ghostschool, not slating his work either btw - some is alright, the alarm dance on there just made me piss myself at work.
- Vaskerville0
^ Yeah, I got that too Ghosty.
What Dan enacted was the creation of a standard. He, and I, did not create the layout (it existed). Dan pushed it further though by inviting others to use it. Together, we've pushed it further by providing some relatively easy tools to use to make it happen.
So far in this story...this is where we are. ;)

We gave it a name...a good one it turns out...because calling it 'left/right' wasn't working for us...haha...but it's true. At the beginning it was called 'the drawer', 'cabinet' and 'Tateatock'...and then it became Indexhibit.
