I do a screen shot in IE and take a colour sample of a background and create a nice graphic with background colour.
Place graphic over background and it looks great in IE - seemless.
In FF I can see the shape around the graphic - it looks as though the background colour is different. All are gifs. What's the deal? Anyone had similar problems?

It always happens like that. Something to do with the algorythms of a web colour vs the algorythms of an app colour. Don't know how you can resolve it though... have you resized either part?

no resize. no nothing. will have to either go back to web safe colours or hack for FF, then.
Just thought I was going mad.

I just recalled that I have soemtimes got around it by copy&pasting a small square of the web image and stretching it to fit where you would have dropped the sampled colour... in other words, insted of eyedropping for the colour, use a copied area of the image colour.
Not sure if that would help you... can't remember if it worked for me to be honest, but it might be worth a go!

sounds like it might work - will try

does this problem also occurs when you use a websafe color?

Have you considered using a colour-picker application? That way you can verify the exact colour value displayed.
If you're willing to use FF, you can install ColorZilla..
