anyone know any free software out there where i can make a swf into a desktop wallpaper.
preferably without it leaving its logo as a watermark.

Wallpaper? Just screengrab it, no?

Animated Wallpaper, then? You are evil, I will not attempt to aid you.
And, I don't know - unless you've got the Fla to export a gif from, I can only envisage hacking the swf to convert it into an Fla, then screengrabbing on every frame, importing into Fireworks or Imageready and building from that. I'm sure there are easier ways, but I'm not a Flash guy, just a flash guy.

just did what robotron3k said and works a treat
problem tho - the backgrounds of the desktop icon and lettering look dodgy

isn't this kind of thing a memory-eater?
- no - file size is less than a jpeg and the animation is actionscriptedWeLoveNoise

We did a project for a client to use internally. There was a controller that the user could use to alter the wallpaper. It started paused because if the animation was started the CPU usage jumped, often breaking 50% on a dual core pentium. On the mac it was pretty much useless. You couldn't interact directly with the flash without going through the software allowing it to cover the desk top which hid all your icons.
Run from this, don't look back.
