so, when handed a new project, what are some of your most do's, or in other words, ways you conceptualize a design... after reading the creative outline of a project.
I'm a google guy/photostock guy then I proceed. sometime sketch things out.
I'm tryng to find a better method to the madness.

ALWAYS start off with a pad and paper first. Whether you're a doodling brainstormer or a list maker, it doesn't matter - you should never touch a computer before you've spent a lot of time fiddling with concepts in the real world.
I used to Google imagery and flick through portfolios for ideas, but invariable spent hours longer coming up with concepts that were less original and definitely more lacklustre than they needed be.
Honestly - the only advice I feel worth giving anyone from my algal level of experience is to start off a project with a pencil in hand, as far away from a computer as possible.

1. Research the company's market/ competitors. Collect as many screenshots as I can that are either competitors or designs that "relate" to the project.
2. Wireframe of the page layouts. Nail down grid measurements and placement of elements.
3. Then comes the fun part. Visual design.

I think wireframing the style guide BS....then print the wireframes to sketch on is a good bet.....then google competitors
