so i'm going on a trip this thursday and just got sick this fucking weekend.

take a tylenol or motrin flu pill every night to help you sleep..
sodas can be good, like ginger ale and coke if your really nauseus and stick mainly to crackers and broth soups...

The problem with Spooky's suggestion is that sometimes you can't breathe properly when you have a cold, and therefore you may die or have an asthma attack. Not a bad way to go, I suppose.
I can't say if I have had personal experience with this or not.

DO NOT take aspirin, tylenol, flu medication that lowers your fever, fever is your bodies way of slowing down the flu virus, and while it will temporarily make you feel better it will prolong your flu. I usually put on 20 layers of clothes and get under the down comforter and drink gallons of water. Of course you should monitor your temp, as if it gets TOO high, your brain will melt.
