yo - I wonder if skt or undo or someone could help me with something?
I'm trying to use a movie clip with 2 layers of simple animation on them to mask an underlying layer but when I output it it seems to reverse the way the mask works, ie. the object is masked when the opaque mask ISN'T sitting above it.
any idea why that might be? I'm about as far from a flash head as you can get so I'm not having much luck here. Its been dumped on me to do very quickly too. fuckers.

i could proabably help, but i'm not totally sure i understand the issue.

ko, cheers - imagine you have an movie clip on one layer and a movie on a mask layer above it; the mask clip is made up of 2 layers of frame based animation and I'm trying to get it to mask what's beneath.
usually the opaque areas of the mask would reveal what's underneath but with this the reverse is happening and its doing my head in. I'm probably missing something, I've tried using the help's code snippets but they make no difference.
The movie clip is masking, its just doing so in negative, so to speak
any clearer?

try applying the mask to the other object
you're welcome!
- pardon me?kelpie
- i was just being a smartass - but seriously, try flipping the layer oder and apply the maskbulletfactory
- ok coolkelpie

try using setMask();
clipToBeMasked.setMask(Mask_mc);
- that's what I've tried but bugger all diff. its the negative masking thing that's really baking my noodlekelpie

can you post the .fla? Maybe having someone take a look at it would help ... esp. if you are using code to mask.
- when coding a mask, i always apply the mask to the WRONG object first, then finally get it inevitablybulletfactory

so for example, the graphic inside of the mask starts at 0% _width and that's when you CAN see the image supposedly being masked and once it reaches 100% width you can no longer see the masked image?
I'm sure this might either sound like a dumb question or that i'm insulting your intelligence, which i'm not, but have you tried the simplest method of right clicking on the mask layer and making sure that "Mask" is selected and that the movieclip to be masked is connected?
- aye, it all looks ok to me, don't worry about dumb question, I'm quite a thick answererkelpie

mind of I mail you it instead?
- if that's directed towards me, sure, I'll take a peek if you email it. Use my profile email.flashbender

is yr masking MC using masking inside itself?
- MediaPimp0
can you mail to me as wel? I could probably solve in a few seconds either by code or timeline. whichever you prefer.

kelpie, check your mail, sending you something similar now.

try masking with just one layer to start with in your mc. Always best to just start eliminating options with flash as it can be a weird cunt some times.
or email me the fla.
