If you bought a pc that had all of the same specs as say a new iMac, same processor, video card...etc, and installed OSX as the os, would it work? Can you even do this? Am I retarded?

what does this have to do with sex?

I don't know if you can. but if you could, the difference would prbably be about $1000.

http://osx86.thefreesuite.com/
never tried it. but have a friend who has it running and works fine.
- morilla0
yes, you can do it, there are people here who have those. But how they did it , I have no idea.

You can (i saw a pc running osx) but requires heavy geeky skills.
I'm planning to do it, one day or another.
Have fun :-)

Re your original question... if you can install it, it will work.. The problem is to install it.. (you need more than just the hardware). The freesuite link looks like one of the best..

Will the level of performance be the same as if it were running on a native machine?

It's a pain in the ass so I wouldn't recommend it unless you don't want to spend a ton of time futzing with it to get it to work right. What's the value of your time?

read this:
http://www.jltech100.blogspot.co…or google for osx86 reviews :)

This is for a desktop, not sure how it would translate to a laptop, but it all centeres around the BIOS and an unlocked version of Leopard

shell out the money for the mac or if money is an issue then go to a computer show and get some guys to build you a nice pc machine and try to get it with xp
- uan0
issues are updates... and special hardware things on real macs...
Conclusion in the review up there:
"OSx86 does run well for most basic apps, but in no way is it a replacement for a real Mac. But what it does do is get you encouraged to buy a real Mac(At least I am). I am now saving up for a Intel Mac Mini. :)"

I have a mac, it was for arguments sake with a co-worker. He believes that there is something "special" about macs. I was arguing is you have the same hardware/os...it should be exactly the same.
He is thinking along these lines...
"... and special hardware things on real macs..."

i would guess front-row&remote is an issue and drivers for built-in cams, mics, multitouchpads...
but im not really sure about that, so i dont know:)
...but was thinking, wheres the point in using osx and not win xp?? safer browsing the internets? software is the same!...ok, fonts maybe...

I think its easier to find quality utility software for Mac.. there's usually 1 or 2 really good usable solutions (such as Transmit), whereas there are too many (mostly crap, overly technical but not thought-through) choices on Windows...
- sorry, I might be starting a 'Mac vs PC' thing... (teh horror)ribit

this would be the equivalent of KITT being put into a pinto. would knight rider been as bad ass of a tv series if KITT was a pinto? no. game. set. match.
