I would love any advice from the seasoned freelancers(not contractors). In otherwords, peeps that are completely on their own, finding projects on their own, and not working for companies. I have been doing contract work for awhile, balanced with my own freelance projects. I woud love to get to a point where I don't have to contract anymore, and can work on my own stuff full time. I understand this takes time, and connections are key. I've been fortunate to have some great projects come my way from friends. But now its been slow, so I'm just doing some part time contract work while looking for my own website projects. I generally go on craigslist gigs section, and check that out.
Any other sites I could go to for leads? Thanks for the advice!

So correct me if I'm wrong, I think you mean I should quit contracting, and just spend my entire time looking for my own projects, and spend all my time making my goal a reality? If I had more of a financial cushion, and wasn't living in SF, I woudl be all for that.

Shellin, robo's advice may sound stupid, but taking the jump pays off a lot of the time. I've heard many a person tell me this and seen it happen on my own. The amount of inner strength you can pull out when you have to will probably amaze you, and you'll only keep learning from it.

...and make sure and hook up with a girl that has a little money, that way your seque is less painful.
- why not just focus on that, and skip the freelance stuff all together?subimage

I hear ya Amerpersanderson. I have two buddies in different industries trying to ge their startups off the ground, and haven't had salary for two years. Not saying thats what I plan on doing, but maybe taking a small risk initially will pay off in the long run. Good to get some perspective. Thanks.
