Hey I'm going to be in Austin for the entire 2 weeks for interactive film and music. Any NT meet ups in the works?
- robotron3k0
uggh 2 weeks is long time. you might want to set up some road trips.
- shellie0
I know. I'm really worried about being there that long but I'm going for work and my bf is going there for work after all the interactive is over so I'm staying.
I'm definitely getting a rental car though. Is there anything drivable from austin that can help me break up my trip?
- mexico maybe? like in Shawshnk Redemption :)madirish
- mexico's about 4.5 hours awayamullins
- it's really fun in Laredo, but only go during the day right nowrobotron3k

Yeah, Austin is a very small town really. the conferences are okay but you get out pretty early. If you're into drinking yourself into oblivion you can do that easily and cheaply.
I would reccommend: driving south down I-35 visit San Marcos and go swimming, go tubing in Green TX, go to San Antonio visit the Alamo, Dripping Springs go the the Salt Lick for barbeque, things like that and between all that you can drink yourself into oblivion to kill time. Also, I hope you LOVE country music.
- +1 on the salt lick. mmm mmm good!amullins

dont go to dallas.... no matter what you do... dont go north of austin.
- actually, Dallas is very big and very fun, it's harder to navigate.robotron3k
- dallas has the worst freeways in the country and lots of strip clubs.Mainstreaman
- don't listen to robotron3k. Dallas is a really big pile and there's nothing fun there. it's full of HATE.mg33

I was born and raised in Austin. There is plenty to do there.

I used to live in Austin too, lovely city.
@robotron3k: Great suggestions. The Salt Lick is great. So it San Marcos. It should be warm enough to visit Schlitterbahn if it's open.
Visit 6th street downtown where all the parties are.
- Get a GPS shellie on your rental and you will rule the roost.robotron3k

Thanks guys!
I live in LA and bounce back and fourth between here and New York and the times I enjoy the most are spent in the mid west in town like Tulsa or Cleveland. You can get into all the right kinds of good clean trouble if you find the right people to roll with.

This is happening around the same time. (may be in conjunction with)

Anyone going to SXSW Music?
I have a badge for music and one for interactive.
I'm going to be hanging with my company during interactive but I'll be alone for Music.None of my friends can afford to go and I got my badge for free.
I'm wondering if there is anyone coming to music that may want to meet up for a couple of shows. I'll be pretty bored doing it all by myself.
I live in Austin so I know what to do around here, I'll have transportation and everything else.
So my point is:
I'm looking for someone or some people to hang out with a little during the Music fest. If you're here for the whole 2 weeks (like Shellie) you'll probably want to do more to experience Austin and I know what to do around here.
Email me if you're interested.

take a drive down 360, the views are amazing. San Antonio has some great scenic areas as well
Tubing over by texas state is also a must- don't forget about schliterban either (they have the best water slides in the world)

tons of free downloads to make a SXSW mix

San Marcos does have tubing but you can go about 20 minutes further to the New Braunfels / Gruene area and the tubing is 20x better.
It will probably be too cold for tubing. It's cold and wet out right now.
I suggest you look up a restaurant called Oasis. It's a little north of Austin but the view is amazing. Don't eat there, steep prices and medium food. Just get some drinks and enjoy the view.

..."1. Ascend all 106 steps of Mt. Bonnell to enjoy the view. 478-0098
2. Take a friend to Hamilton's Pool and experience the miracle of Nature. 264-2740
3. Take a moonlight tour of the Wide Basion Preserve. 327-7622
4. Go for a ride on the long star riverboat or Capitol Cruise. (seasonal) 327-1388, 480-9264..."

I ended up canceling all my tickets last week. I decided to use my plane ticket and hotel credit to go to Mexico in a month (AYEEE!). So, I'm not comin to Texas anymore. But to all that's going, have a fun and stuff.
