is so extremely fucking slow all day. It's been freezing every 10 minutes from CPU leaks in EVERY app. System Preferences, Activity Monitor, iClip, Safari, Finder, Photoshop, even TextMate. What the hell is going on? I'm running 10.5.1, anyone had similar issues that were fixed by 10.5.2? The thing's so damn hot I'm considering putting it in the fridge...

i am having a horrrrible time with leopard. My macbook fan sounds like a hairdryer, the only app that seems to run well is safari and the only reason im using safari is that since the leopard "upgrade" my firefox is acting like shit.
Still tho... scared to update to 10.5.2 yet b/c i have had major malfunctions after OS updates in the past, Now i wait 1-2 months until doing system updates hoping they changed the bug's by then.- my macbook sounded the same, but i checked my activity monitor and it had my lexmark printer goin crazy, deleted all of it, all been gd sincelukefry

sorry to hear that.
well at my past work, we updated to 10.5. sure made it slower and got font issue with helvetica neue. I'm not updating to 10.5 on my mac.
- I also have an issue with Helvetica Neue, but other than that, I'm fine all the way. I even got Windows XP running on Parallels yesterday.CyBrain

On my work Mac Leopard is woeful, but on my personal Mac it's peachy. Guess it depends on your setup.

isn;t the point of updates to fix things that may be making it slow in the first place?
- VanDerFull0
Tried purging you cache and repairing permissions with Cocktail or Leopard Cache Cleaner?
- Jaline0
I updated Leopard and things run a bit more smoothly now. *crosses fingers
The first time I installed Leopard was shitty though.

Leopard has been amazing for me until now, it's just leaking RAM and CPU every 30 seconds...

repair permissions before every upgrade.

I love 10.4 and will wait for 10.6 to upgrade to 10.5.
And that's how you deal with Apple products.

When you upgrade to Leopard, don't 'upgrade'. Do an 'archive and install' instead. It's quicker and as it installs a fresh copy of the OS X system it's less likely to break things. Don't forget to select 'preserve user and network settings' to keep your settings and prefs as they were. You can also do this after 'upgrading' instead of completely erasing the drive and reinstalling from scratch.
- I did this and still had some issues. Clean install is the best.Jaline

I agree with the archive and install method, or do a clean wipe and install just leopard and rebuild from there. I know its a pain in the ass, but every time I upgrade to new version of the OS I start preparing and backing up - usually takes me 1/2 a day to get all my apps, files, and settings back on.
I find also that I decide to not reinstall a bunch of stuff that is obsolete to me - thus saving space and not cluttering up my drive.Don't know if this method (logistically) works for you, but I've been doing it since 10.3 came out and I've only had 2 kernel panics on my machines (both related to an airport bug). I've had none on my MacBook (2 ghz / 2 gb ram) - had it more than a year and upgraded to leopard back in Nov. Sorry to hear you're having troubles...

I didn't do a clean install because my laptop is barely 6 months old. So I did archive and install, which is okay but still resulted in some issues. Now I don't want to do a clean install because I made so many fixes and modifications to Leopard to make it seem more consistent like Tiger. I still like Leopard (including the upgrades and the new program appearances, etc.), but there are too many issues for me to go out and tell someone that upgrading is the best idea. Well...maybe now that new updates are out it's better.

Actually the only thing I don't like now is this purple sky wallpaper, but I only see it during startup. I switched the dock to appear Tiger-ish. Top menu bar can be made opaque with a system setting now (10.5.2). Dock folders have 3 ways to display their content - it's a perfect app launcher. QuickLook is an even bigger improvement than Expose once was, I keep finding myself pressing space bar on my PC at work. What's not to like (apart from the aurora borealis) ?
- hm, the price tag. lol.akrokdesign
- it's about $90 @ US amazon afair. Maybe not worth the upgrade, but ok when comes with a new computer.rafalski

I've heard theres an update issue with CS3 and leopard, so that maybe the reasons for some of your problems:
For those who work with Adobe CS3 tools, please be aware that the new Apple OS 10.5, Leopard, does NOT work with most of the pro applications in CS3.Adobe says: "...the following CS3 applications will require updates for full compatibility with Leopard: Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional and our professional video applications, including Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, After Effects CS3 Professional, Encore CS3, and Soundbooth CS3. We expect to publish free Leopard compatibility updates for the video applications in December 2007 and for Acrobat 8 Professional and Adobe Reader 8 in January 2008."
Adobe has a PDF on the subject at:

I always repair permissions, Leopard is on a clean install, all caches have been cleared, the only Adobe apps I've run are Photoshop and Illustrator. Right now it's Safari that's consistently SNAFU'ing my system (I quit basically everything else). Weird.
- ismith0
Also, after clearing the caches my fonts are all messed up. For example when i go to the google code page all the titles and such are messed up fractions and what not, even though I have all fraction fonts disabled on my system...
- Working now– I deleted the fonts. Disabling doesn't work anymore? wtfismith

There is an update of Linotype Font Explorer X - if you're using it - required if you're on 10.5.2

Ok, I am having a problem with leopard too - everything is working fine, but when i go to save a file in any app it gives me the wheel of death for 5 min or longer before it will let me name my file and save it. any thoughts on wussup?
- mirrorball0
It does that to me too! Specifically Indesign CS3! Takes a fookin age to open and save documents now!
