I bet a lot of old schoolers are going to be tweaked. I remember when my photographer friends used to use film and preferred it. was that just old school then too, or did/do film cameras give you something that a digital can't? Or is it all up to the photographer. or is it dudes that like vinyl like film cameras? school me.

While there is a difference between digital / analog (on any medium) a lot of people "say" they like analog better because that is a way to re-assure themselves over the "noobs" that may just jumped in on the digital train.
Hard Synth Vs VSTi
Film Vs Digital
Vinyl VS CD
Cassette VS Vinyl
Cow Meat Vs Md Donald's meat
Xacto Knife and Rotring Vs Photoshop
and so on..

i got my polaroid 600 land camera in the early 80s. i used to love that thing, i've got a paper shopping bag stuffed full of pics at my parents house. i just dug the thing out of the closet and it's still got some film in it! takes the most horrible pics, all brown and discolored around the edges

Chemical photographs have an element of truth and authenticity that digital photos will never have.
The other day I showed 30 year old slides I took in Mexico to friends who were on the trip. That actual film was in Mexico, right in front of the things I took pictures of.
Aside from the technical challenge of archiving digital images for 30 years, 30 years on digital images will not have the same authenticity chemical images made 30 years ago do.

I didn't like film photography. I loved the images, but I felt the business model was a scam and film was a sort of an interim way to capture photos. I know, I know.. but that's how it felt. I wanted to take pictures, but paying for each shot felt like paying for razors. Did you know Gillette had bought a patent for the metallic glass razor years ago? It's a technology that allows you to produce a razor blade that doesn't get blunt for months and months of continuous use. They keep it locked in their safes, to make sure it's never used. It would kill their business. We're lucky FujiFilm or Kodak never patented digital pictures!
When the digital photography arrived, I was sure this was what I'd waited for: digital quality and free shutter actuations. No scanning! I was sure I'd get to enjoy film photography eventually, as a rather expensive hobby. All this said.. I never owned a polaroid camera. Never fired a shot. Did I stock up today? Fuck yeah and it's not for resale!

Isn't there ALOT more to polaroids then simply being old-skool or hipster??? The colour, grain, blur, strange analogue effects you can get etc etc. Plus the fact you can manipulate the image itself as it develops before your eyes.
Makes digital feel so sterile and soulless really.
