What's the cheapest & most comfortable way to get to London from LAX? I rack up miles with American, but for a trip that long I'm thinking maybe I should go Virgin. Looks like either one will end up costing about $800. Any tips for getting a cheaper flight? Or is that a good price?

That sounds about average to me if not quite cheap.

If you are searching on Expedia, eBookers or similar, the list you get will tell you if its a good price... (lowest Air New Zealand $681?)
but you need to calculate your miles and status credits benefit of flying with American... (I'd still choose Virgin).
- also if you are with Americamn you get points on British Airways and other One World partner airlines?ribit

I fly Virgin to LAX all the time. Nice leg room, loads of on demand shows, planes are newer/nicer than AA or BA. If i book 1-2 months in advance i can get flights for £300 ($600-700) odd, careful booking late though as inside a month the flights generally get racked up to £1300 o.0.
But yeah i'd recommend Virgin.

Yeah, I think I'd prefer to fly Virgin for that kind of trip rather than American, unless I can use some miles with AA. It'd be nice to get miles for the trip, but I'd choose comfort first. How's the lowest economy class on Virgin? If the price isn't much different I'll jump up to premium eco...but is the lowest eco decent?
- its okay and possible to sleep in them, you can also get the exit seats for a small premium. It was £70 per seat on a LHR to South Africa flight I was onondo

fly a foreign carrier. U.S. carriers suck ass, especially internationally. and *especially* in business and first class.....whatever that even means on U.S. carriers now..
