Something tells me it's more case-by-case and arbitrary than formulaic and logical. So many qualitative things to put a price on.

I haven't done this, so I may be completely wrong, but if I remember correctly, it is usually an additional 50 - 100% on top of the cost of the project.

And I guess my position's different to Randd's as I'm not referring to agency work, rather plain vanilla freelance work from home.
I'm utterly brilliant at scuppering my own threads.

Now I think about it, the situation hasn't actually cropped up for me in a year of work. I've either been working for an agency where all the assets are theirs as part of the contract or working direct with clients where everything is mine in terms of working files.
I'd be interested to see what other people do charge for releasing original files.

So did I. Sorry, I'm obviously not using appropriate lingo.

I thought you meant a price for relinquishing the rights to an artwork or design.

er..I ask, as this was mentioned in Randd's contract thread.
I assume 'buyout fees for creative properties' refers to the cost involved of purchasing the working files for the project?

Do any of you guys have a formula/logic to working out 'buyout fees for creative properties'?
If so, care to share?
