this is our nonsensical page layout as it stands:
http://www.redata.com/100029/car…this is what i was working to develop to make it cleaner and less fugly:
http://www.redata.com/100029/car…any other comments are appreciated. havent touched the maps yet. and heres a preemptive 'fail' in case for some reason these urls are behind a firewall and you cant see them

Well that's much nicer! I'd drop the little rounded corner card backgrounds though.

better, but the stripes look out of place

Better, though some of those headlines could really benefit from a bit of sIFRisation ;)
Did you read that article that was posted recently about banishing 3 column layouts? It's on here somewhere.. http://www.qbn.com/topics/540249… and I'm liable to agree with it.
See what you think.
- did read it actually he made good points... didnt know what to do with the third column or whether it was even necessary********

Much better, but it would be nice not to have to scroll right for the locations box and the justified type is hideous! Good stuff.

Are people going to have that resolution on their computer? My work computer has 1024, and the first screencap has that resolution and the second doesn't.

the header texts look to heavy and to close together

Don't like the justified type either. Maybe you could change the text to make it look nicer, or just left/right justify or something.
Overall, it's better than the first version.

The fonts are inconsistent, especially in the headers (as jay noted). Maybe tone it down a bit.
I just realized that there is only one navigation box on the right, so it's not as bad as having many boxes / links in that area (which I have to scroll to get to).

yeah i wasnt sure what to do with the links on the right... i added them to the page. the previous designer had added anchors but there were no links that would jump to them. i can honestly take them off completely, i wasnt looking to make it so wide at first either...
and as far as the rounded corners, and the stripes, it was just a simple fix to start a more coherent and visual design rather than just plain boxes and tables... im open to ideas

the header at the top is georgia the rest of the page should be verdana... i'll take a look at letter-spacing and size

Also I'm not sure about the type for the dates. It looks like the orange numbers are italicised and the slashes are back/straight slashes. I'd make them just bold and in this format '03/03/08' to neaten them up.

yeah i used the straight slash / italic combo somewhere else and it looked better than this time around... i also thought of putting in the extra zeroes and never got around to it
