I find those (well-known) photos iconic because they somewhat represent my european view of north-america, which I admit may be a bit antiquated: big expanses of nature and a pioneering spirit (with all its contradictions). That Adams pic, is even more relevant because the Yosemite pictures of Ansel Adams were behind the creation of the first natural park in history - when some senator in Washington marvelled with what comes through in those photographs.
