Hey all, I would love some feedback on a website estimate I am trying to put together for a vodka company. Basically, to summarize, they are looking for a roughly six page flash website with a rich multimedia experience ie. motion graphics, video, audio, rich animations, etc. Some sites they mentioned as a reference for what they are looking for are:
www.pinkspirits.com
www.skyy.com
www.smirnoff.com
www.glaceau.comIn addition to the rich multimedia experience ,they also are looking for copywriting.
Any thoughts on what you think this might cost. I was going to say somewhere around 20k. I am thinking the motion graphics and multimedia part will add up to a lot of time and hours, in addition to the flash development of the site and copywriting.
Do you think 20k is on track? Less, more?
I appreciate all feedback. Thanks!

20k and 2 cases of Vodkar!

Good point! I didn't even think about the free vodka angle radar, hehehe.
- akrokdesign0
yeah dude, you have to research the product. =D
- Mimio0
Way more
- shellin0
Really Mimio? Why do you say that? What do you think it would cost?
- Mimio0
I'm pretty sure the list of sites they like aren't 20k sites. That's all I'm saying. I'm not throwing out numbers either.

maybe split it up in sections. like how much does the copy writer req. etc. that might help.

great. thanks for the feedback all. this helps.

That smirnoff was at least 50K if done by an agency.
A lot of the price depends on delivery of the assets - do they have everything you need or are you going to de doing a lot of clean up or making assets from 0 - in which case you need to factor in the back and forth with the client about the asset design as well as the website.
Also good copywriting is f'ing hard. If the client is placing an emphasis on copy, I would strongly suggest contracting that out. A lot of people *think* they can write copy, but they can't. I used tot hink it was no big deal until I worked with a professional copywriter, and then I moved on and I don;t have a copy write on staff anymore and it sucks ass.
Also keep in mind how much coding you are going to have to do for things like checking age, scripted motion vs. tweened... that sort of thing. 6 pages doesn't sound like a lot, but it can get complicated pretty fast.
I'm not giving a price, but I will say that all the sites you listed - with the exception of the pink one are easily more than $25K if done by an agency.

This is interesting, and would be great to hear from web experts or agency designers since I was on the same boat not too long ago and was not sure if i should ask or not.

This is good feedbaƧk flashbender. I agree with you regarding writing copy. I was planning on bringing in a copywriter for this project. In addition, I am definetely thinking of assembling a team for this project. There is definetely some high end motion graphics involved, and although I am dabbling in After Effects, I may need to bring in an expert after effects guy. I may also bring in a flash developer who does more of the scripting and backend. I guess that would keep me on the top-level Art Direction, concept and design role, as well as some flash animation. The more I think about it, I could see this site being 30 to 40k.

If you are shooting for something like smirnoff that range is more realistic - epecially if you are building a team. Just Don't forget that teams = communication = meetings = more money ;)
- shellin0
Yep. makes sense. thanks flashbender.
- flashbender0
oh, and don't forget that money = happiness, that was the last part of the equation
hahahaha.

Design Concept: 10-15k
Implementation: 09-12k
Q&A :5k
- epete220
our agency paid 30K for our website and it sucks super ass. i mean FYI
- former0
20k seems cheap to me.
Design/Concept - 10k
MoGraph/3D work - 10k (a pro will cost you at least $500/day)
Implementation/programming - 10kMisc. - 5k
That's without the copy write, which I think could be one of those open ended things, just depends on what you are starting with.
Just depends. Some of those sites have probably 20k, at least, into the 3D and motion graphics, without any flash. I'd be really amazed to find someone that could do everything well (let me know if you do and i'll hire them!), so plan on paying someone or some other company for the expertise you don't have.
Oh, and I'd ask for a life time supply, or maybe 50 cases. Tell'em that you want to promote your design and their vodka with friends, colleagues, family, etc. Win/win - they get motivated design and free advertising and you get to become an alcoholic for free.
I need to start going after these jobs!!

LOL @ 20k for a six page flash site.
Dudes, come on, you know this kid isn't going to turn out that quality of work.
- harlequino0
flashbender is pretty right on. Definitely up in the 25k range for this type of work. Probably much more if your individual or team work is on the same level, both conceptually and development-wise with these other brand sites.

killer - good point.
These prices are assuming that things will be refined and well executed.
I'd honestly be surprised if someone could pull this off without already have a team and working relationships established.Maybe get a few of the vodka cases before hand, just in case it all goes south!
