I'll believe it when I see it. Its so far off!
I was hoping you would say that IE was going drop off the planet.

I like the idea of adding new semantic tags.

What exactly is the point of semantic tags? Whats wrong with just naming your CSS ids and classes 'semantically' (guh buzzword)? All this is going to do is make everything harder to understand for the poor sod who has to clean up a ton of code after some asshat has just abused this idea.
- sure, if everyone used exactly the same ids and classnamesstupidresponse

Because HTML 5 is supposed to be a revised direction with "best practices" in mind instead of being a "fix" for HTML 4.

no more frames.
still support for iframes though.

I'm not saying everyone uses the same ids and classnames but more often than not they're given a name with a sensible description of what that element's purpose is. The reason I have a problem with this is because just as with tables back in the day and various CSS rules now, I don't find it that hard to imagine people using these tags for various hacks that will render it completely useless. Thus being even more confusing than the system we have now.

cant people define their own tags now with xml? wouldnt this just be easier?
i convert old ass files to css and xhtml all day long... therefore i have to stare at tables nested in tables nested in tables... as far as im concerned nothing could ever be more mind numbing than that... if i was looking at someone elses document that was written with <header><content><nav> <footer> id probably be shitting with joy... it would be so much clearer and more concise to code...
i could be wrong but thats just my take
- If it were used propperly but now imagine: <content><nav><footer><header>
