Is black considered a color? I believe so. Is white? It's been a while, but I assume white isn't considered a color in a two color print project? Any help is appreciated. -red

um.... black = yes white = no

Black and white is one colour printing. Staples are silver though so binding is an extra.

depends on what you're printing on, right?
- mrseaves0
yeah- is your paper white or colored?

If your printing on a colored stock... then white could be a color.

Hey before you go, which one of us is the more appealing?
- redant0
its on white paper I'm making a 2-color logo so I wanted to see if I could use black, brown and gold, but black is a color yea I know duh.
- mrseaves0
if you pick a brown that can be pulled down to a goldish color- you're golden!
- redant0
yea makes sense thanks mrseaves. I'm gonna try that!
- Studiospooky0
Yeah but... which one of us is the more
Oh never mind. Yeah you're proposing a three colour print, but you figured that out already it seems. You could still do it as a two though if you print gold, and a solid black plus haltoned black areas where the brown would be... you;d get a sort of mid-point hybrid of the black and the gold... lighter than the black, darker then the gold - kind of brown!

hmm ok what is halftoned?
- Studiospooky0
Its an area of, for example 40% black (a grey, visually speaking). When the printer outputs the films (or ST plates these days) the grey area has to be translatsed into a screen of dots, like a black and white newspaper picture. That dotting translation process is called halftoning. You can use it to cheat third colours, but be warned.. too fine and it will fill in, too crude and it will dominate the design.
I'm guessing I'm the most appealling by now with all my knowledge on and everthing/
- mrseaves0
dang! i wasn't fast enough and lost my appeal.
- redant0
hmm yes i think so ;) haha. One more thing the halftone back is over the gold? Sorry I understand the haltone is grey it's just that how do i get the brown?
- Studiospooky0
You will always have your appeal Mrseaves.

Print gold first, then black overprint. The illusion of a third colour is based on the fact that, if you get your halftone screen just right, your eye will be met by an area that features gold overprinted with little black dots. The black dots, uniformly dispersed, will have the fefct of darkeing the gold down from the un-blemished areas of gold. At the same time though, the black dots are spread out so are lighter than the solid black zones, giving the appearance of being lighter than black.
Lighter than black would look grey except for the warming effects of the gold around the dots, lending it a brown hue.

You could also overprint brown over the gold and get a third, darker color. It depends on the two colors you've selected. This is always a little risky because the results vary depending on the color choices. I've successfully overprinted colors before and was pleased with how it came out.
