For some reason my eye dropper tool is picking the background color and not the foreground color. Has anyone ever encountered this problem and solved it ? I tried restarting my computer and I can't seem to find anything in my preferences.

Bloody hell, I was going to say that EXACT same thing earlier. How very strange! Mine is also doing that, and if I use the colour sliders to change the colour, it changes the BACKGROUND colour not the foreground one.
Thats Spooky
- how does apply to/affect your gradients; specifically of the 'gold' variety734

have you tried resetting the tool?
click the eye dropper
click on the box in the top left of the options bar
click the arrow > reset tool

sometimes if you have caps lock on your comp will do funny things... some of the buttons change the way tools appear and behave
- Not that either. I think its an embedded date-launched obsolesence bug eating CS1Studiospooky

haha yeah im running cs1 here at work... have 7 and cs2 at home... still do most everything in 7 honestly, i dont like teh way cs2 changed the layer linking. plus it runs slow on my comp
- drag the 'info' tab into its own window and remove it, then set font-preview to 'none'..mikotondria2
- for speed issues you mean? i'll give it a shot, thanks734

I have CS2 and CS3 on my mac. I tried reseting the eye dropper and that didn't work.

i know if you hold alt (i dont know what the shit it is on macs) it selects the background color... maybe you both have faulty keyboards
- Its inverted that. What you say works, but in reverse.Studiospooky

"Have the same problem - just figured it out. Go to the 'Color' Tool Pallette (usually on the right side of the screen) and make sure the foreground color box is highlighted by clicking on it instead of the background color. I don't know how it got like that, but when I selected the foreground color here, the eyedropper tool works right."

my guess is maybe your "option" or "alt" key are jammed ?
because it's the shortcut key to atribute the back/foreground color...

ok KevinTx got it !
