probably depends on what it was used for... couldnt tell you about an organization but if its strictly for a punked logo, ie sort of a subculture thing youd probably be fine. if its for commercial use you might run into a stickier situation
- madirish0
yeah, they will send you a letter for sure.... that is why they are registered marks.
but i might not be understanding your Q?
- van_rijn0

I have seen others use this style for other sports leagues, but it is done in a mocking or marketing fashion, see these examples:
http://www.fcfighter.com/ - MMA clothing
http://www.mlgpro.com/ - Console gaming leagueBut is you want to use the exact logo of the NBA, MLB or others, you better go get some legal counsel and some major permission approvals, because they will not only send a letter, they will have a man show up with an empty briefcase asking you to "Fill it up".
- Especially if it is a poker tournament type of thing. Ha!brandon_phillip

naah not gonna use it exactly. but more like the examples you gave brandon
- dbloc0
just do it and see if you get a Cease & Desist

I'm not expert, but I am pretty sure you can not copyright "logo with red and blue background with white silhouette"
- van_rijn0
i find it odd then that all these sports have basically the red/blue silhouette. wonder who gets paid off
- 90% of design is stealingflashbender
- or maybe I should say 90% of the design out there is stolen
flashbender - 43% of statistics are made up on the spot734
- really? I thought it was more like 76% were made up ;Dflashbender
- might be more like fouty%734

has anyone considered that maybe this style (of the official logos and not parodies) is something that was established as an identity system for the major sports leagues?
- flashbender0
The more I think about it, the less likely I find this. I have never heard of a "professional league" commission or anything like that. Not to mention BAseball does what baseball wants, football does what football does (and their logo does not fit this template) basketball does what basketball does.
If you are really that concerned about it, mock it up and consult a lawyer. IF you are not that concerned about it, do it and see what happens.
