I disagree. Discuss.
Ps. The irony of no-one replying to this because of the obvious will not be accepted.

mind you, 40% reading one book or less means 60% read more than one.
that's something, at least.
I despair of a world where people no longer read.

I read quite a lot, but would never buy one of those devices. Reading from a screen is a pain in the ass and not the same as flipping through real paper pages.
- Agreed.Jaline
- thank you. I whole heartedly agree, which is why print will never die.Arvizu
- My whole family reads an enormous amount. And none of us are interested in that device.AndyRoss
- nothing like a good ol' printed bookDaro
- Books should for ever be in print. However I prefer reading news articles online rather then in a newspaper.JKilla77

Well I think ist a bit of a wild statement to say that no one reads anymore. More likely the products in question are a bit unnecessary because people don't like to read too much on screen.

i honestly have not read a book in at least 10 years. totally honest. not 'agreeing' w/ Jobs by a long-shot, but i honestly do not 'read' in terms of books/journals.
now, i do 'read' TONS of online sources/articles/essays/blogs/me... but books + me = foreign.
- fair enough but you are totally missing out imo. I consider that to be a shame, completely nonjudgmentallykelpie
- sure, understand. before this however, i read books like that singer chain smokes. just grew out of it, personally.madirish
- not sure I would classify that as "growth"Randd

One of my favorite things about books it that it dosen't matter how old they are they are still useable. I have books over 100 years old and I can still read them.
My flash portfolio I did in 2000? Can't open it anymore. I see the same happening with digital book files.
And yeah, I spend enough time looking at a screen already

statisitcs are fun... it doesn't say his source, or what the study (if there was one) was intending to research. maybe it was just books... people read websites and magazines and newspapers all day long. some people have books on tape. some people read a few pages every night before bed. its possible to stretch out a book for several months doing this.
90% of all statistics are made up or distorted

book markets are rising all over the world. he's crazy.

I read, and I see lots and lots of people reading on the tube every day.
Also, last time I checked book stores seemed to be doing just fine, maybe he should have thought about that before making such a sweeping statement.

Apparently no one wears blue jeans with black jumpers tucked in anymore either.

if forthy percent of americans only read one book last year then yes america people pretty much don't read, however did it say how many books the other 60 percent read ?.....
- Randd0
for me reading books is one of the true deep pleasures
- Corvo0
^ he didn't realise he was talking about motherfuckin printed materials

This reminds me of that Time Magazine article about J.K. Rowling. She deserved to be mentioned because she re-charged the book industry for young people in an enormous way. Including for myself. Still, I wonder what will happen once I graduate. Right now I mainly read books for school. I'm not sure I would read that much for fun. Maybe once in a while, but definitely not that much anymore. For some reason it doesn't excite me the way it used to.

I retract the word deep

I believe in Randd, (only if he is the old Rand though) if it's an imposter I'll punch him or her in the tummy (really hard as well >:( )
