Has anyone ever had books printed from blurb or lulu or the like? I was curious about the quality of the printing. It seems so inexpensive, especially for low volume offset printing (at least for blurb, i couldn't find much about the printing process for lulu). Or if you have any other recommendations maybe? Help a brother out. Thanks

ive been looking at doing a blurb book too.
why not just try for yourself?
make a quick 20 page book and try as many different text sizes/image resolutions as possible throughout it and get 1 hardback and one softback printed.
its only gonna skin you about £40 for both and it'll be a good reference to work to.thats what i'm gonna do

with blurb, dont use their templates they are pretty crap. build the designs yourself in whatever program then import into their blank templates as high res jpegs or something. they have a tutorial for settings etc to get the best results.

wow, that looks pretty good.
its offset?

I've used Lulu for a number of things, and recommended them to a number of friends. Basically, for what you pay, it's pretty damn good. I'd be appalled if I got quality like that from a normal printer, but Lulu does a damn fine job for the price.

which one is better?

I've never used blurb, only Lulu. Lulu operates much like Modern Postcard/Overnight Prints doing gang runs on a digital press.

for hardcovers, can you do a fabric wrap?

I agree with skwiotsmith. I have printed things at Lulu before. If you just want a simple collection, Lulu is great for the price. If you want something more fancy, perhaps try Blurb or elsewhere.

Through Lulu: You can do fabric wrap, but its 6x9 only and B&W interior...8.5x11 is laminate and colour only (I believe).
