Does anyone know how to do this masking thing that LiveSurface does in Illustrator? http://www.livesurface.com/index…
With the automatic perspective/vanishing point and all.

Wouldn't that just be making a Clipping Mask?

Clipping Masks just block out what's visible and what's not. I want to be able to take a shape and just drop it in a "mask" where it automatically does a perspective for you, just like in that LiveSurface demo in the front page with Photoshop. Except, doing it with Illustrator.

I don't think there is a way to do that out of the box with Illustrator, where you can just drop it in and the perspective is taken care of. You can probably free distort it to acheive the same effect with just a little bit of effort. Maybe I'm wrong and there is a way, but it seems like you'll have to do it by hand.

LiveSurface is just an image company, not an app. (as far as I can tell.) Photoshop is using Vanishing Point for that. You could prolly come close by using the path anchor editor on a flattened shape and just tweak it into place. Not sure. Anyone else?

Right now I have a shape in perspective. Have that in a clipping mask, then I have the graphic under the mask, then use the perspective on the mask to fit the shape that's in perspective... hah/ So pretty much what daveFelton typed.
harlequino, I never said it was an app of any kind. Just want to recreate it in Illustrator as they did in Photoshop.
I've been wanting pizza all day :(

Is this a program you have to buy? Or is it in the new CS3? Ive never seen this before.

Oh..harlequino explained it for me. Thanks

Yeah, so I made a grid and such. I should be ok. Hah, not everything is automatic :) Thanks to all who responded

you can use the Free Distort Tool {E} it does what you want!!!
this is in illy.

Use the free distort tool, or you can create an envelope distort shape. Then you can fre the envelope and use it over and over again once you've got it worked out right.
On a side note, does anyone here remember Kai's Power Tools for Illustrator? I think it was around Illustrator 7 and Illustrator 8. Truly great 3d and perspective distortion sub-apps. I miss KPT. Whatever happened to KPT I wonder....?
