ok, i'm flyng next week to LA right after xmas and I have to wait my friends all alone for four days... any suggestions for places, shows, art galleries or even bars...? no restaurants please... thanx!

Downtown is popping these days. Lots of bars/restaurants. Check out the Golden Gopher and Edison (both bars). Galleries are all around. Then get in a cab and trek yourself to Melrose Ave. Tons of galleries, not as many bars, but some good ones (Village Idiot) and you're within short cabs or long walks to Sunset Blvd. and Hollywood. When you're done there, if you got time to kill, make your way west to Santa Monica and Venice. Hippy town, lots of art, pretty decent bars there too.

i lived in LA in the early 90s (school years) and I never spent a lot of time near downtown area guess so many things changed by then... thanks again cinco!67nj
