im just curious... how do you decide how much to charge for print work.
for web, it seems easy to price something out based on the complexity of the project, time involved, etc.. very easy to calculate.
but if youre given a print commission, how do you figure it out? lets say ... Wired Magazine contacted you and asked to design the cover for next months mag. what would you charge for it? but then what if a big company like Coke was doing an event, and they wanted a flyer design for it (hypothetical dumb example).. would you charge the same as that cover for the Wired mag, or more, or less..
just trying to figure out how much one piece of print design is worth.

so i have to pay money to get an answer on this simple question?

Free and Simple Answer: It varies by client size and the distribution of the work.
Now take the $19 you just saved, buy some coffee, then spend the next few hours researching industry standards for the pricing that matches that criteria.

yes. varies by client size and distribution. great.
so what about my example. if Wired or People magazine asked you to design a cover for them, how much would you charge? then if Sony asked you to design a billboard advertisement, what would you charge?
2 examples is all im asking for from people who would be in this position.
- has sony asked you to design a billboard advertisement?Randd

as proven by your inability to answer this question yourself, it's not such a 'simple question' as you make it sound...

charge what you would feel happy with creating the work. simple as that.

one thing you can do, ask the client whats the budget for this project?

I would look into that book for a base price, yes the book will cost you money but you should make that money back 100x. At the very least goto a book store and check it out. The prices are not 100% perfect but it will at least give you a ballpark idea on how most people charge for design. Try to avoid any hourly billing with a client most will try and take advantage of that

You ca make good money doing print, bigger jobs bigger money. So wired magazine is gonna make you more money than a flyer
