it's called HDR
High-Dynamic RangeIt's created with several images taken at varying exposures and then combined in post with either an HDR osftware package, with Photoshop CS2 or CS3's "merge to HDR" tool or simply by hacking it in photoshop (much harder)

i dont know exactly what you are referring to as hyper real effect as these pics, though really good, to me they just look like a hi def picture... nothing 'hyper real' about them...

i think that the pic in the thread title is not a real subway, but is part of the NYC Transit Museum as the pic is missing all the people. plus the lighting in the pic is too strong for it to be straight...

Actually a lot of the pics that say "some random alley" look like they were professionally lit and touched up. If not this dude is just plain magical.

you can have a long exposure shot with a small aperture and the people will disappear from the shot.
